Built for Hermann Göring in 1937 as a personal luxury yacht, Carin II was conceived for the most part to portray his stature and importance in Germanys Third Reich. Named after his first wife, the Swedish Carin von Kantzow, Carin II followed directly after Carin, an earlier vessel which he deemed too small and plain for his lavish tastes. On board in 1938, Göring and his generals planned the rebuilding and restructuring of the Luftwaffe and during the early stages of WWII Carin II served as Gorings headquarters and command center.
